B-Quik Racing Co. Ltd. TM (“B-Quik Racing”) is pleased to announce that Shaun Thong will partner Sandy Kraokaew Stuvik in our #2 Audi R8 LMS Ultra GT3 during the opening round of Thailand Super Series (“TSS”) 2019, which takes place this coming weekend at Sepang International Circuit.

Securing Shaun to partner Sandy in our #2 Audi gives us a strong and rounded Silver-Silver line up as we chase a third consecutive Super Car Teams’ title, following on from our triumphs in Super Car GTM Plus (2017) and Super Car GTM (2018).

It’s a youthful driver line up too as Shaun is 23 while Sandy turned 24 just last week; in fact, it’s the first time we have paired two young drivers together in Super Car – however both have already enjoyed successful careers. Despite their ages they’re both proven quantities: they’re fast, come with a wealth of all-round single seater and GT sportscar experience and know exactly how to get the job done and win races.

Shaun’s career started in karts before he graduated to Formula Renault where he immediately made waves. Then it was onto F3 in Europe (where in fact he raced against Sandy). As well as single seaters he soon started racing in Le Mans Prototypes and in 2013 made his debut in the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup.

The Audi connection would be very quickly cemented and in 2015 Audi Sport Customer Racing Asia took on Shaun as the first participant of their new young driver development program that aims to nurture talented youngsters into GT racing. That thrust him straight in the deep end and included driving an Audi R8 LMS Ultra GT3 in the Blancpain Endurance Series in Europe as well appearing in the Audi TT Cup and being part of the first all-Asian driver line up for Audi in the Nürburgring 24 Hours. Closer to home, Shaun made a highly impressive debut at the Bangsaen Grand Prix in 2017 where he drove an Audi in TCR Asia Series.

He comes to us this weekend knowing the “R8 GT3” inside out having racked up numerous results with the car and off the back of being an Audi Sport Customer Racing Asia “pool” driver last year. That experience of the “Ultra” is going to prove invaluable this weekend as we get up to speed for the season opener and his knowledge will be put to good use as he teams up with Sandy who is getting behind the wheel of the car for the first time.

The team arrives in Sepang in upbeat mood after Henk Kiks and Daniel Bilski scored a stunning AM class victory in the opening round of Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia here nine days ago. We entered the event primarily as a shakedown for our brand-new #26 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo and – despite limited running time – Henk, Daniel and the whole team combined superbly. The resulting win was much more than we expected and that sets the #26 car up perfectly for TSS and has given the whole team a huge lift.

Also in action this weekend at Sepang in TA2 Thailand will be our #26 Dodge Challenger, which is being driven this season by Narin Naeosathon and Veerachue Sathaporn. They represent “Tier 2” of the ambitious “B-Quik Junior Programme” which aims to nurture and develop future racing drivers and engineers that are drawn exclusively from the pool of more than 3,000 technicians employed by Thailand’s leading national aftermarket servicing chain, B-Quik.

Shaun will be supported by “City of Dreams” residences in Penang by Ewein Zenith, Malaysia’s premier lifestyle developer, which is versatile in a diverse range of world class projects that reflect unrivalled quality and grandeur as well as craftsmanship and luxury all at competitive prices.

B-Quik Racing is supported by B-Quik, Michelin, Mobil 1, Bendix, Yuasa, NGK, Liqui Moly, STI and WAC Car Detailing.

We start on track in Sepang tomorrow (Wednesday 17 April) as we kick off two days of Paid Practice sessions. Then it’s on to Official Free Practice on Friday (19 April) before Qualifying and Race 1 take place on Saturday (20 April) with Race 2 following up on Sunday (21 April). Thailand Super Series is running as part of the Malaysian Championship Series (“MCS”) programme.

Henk Kiks (Managing Director, B-Quik Racing): “We’re very pleased to have Shaun join us in Sepang this weekend; we really wanted to put together a young and competitive driver line up for the Ultra and with Shaun slotting in with Sandy we have two excellent Silver drivers that while both young are also experienced and know how to get the car home and grab a result. I think both Sandy and Shaun are up to prove a point, will bounce very well off each other and can realistically shoot to win. Our key priority of course is the Teams’ championship and so I think in Shaun and Sandy we have the best possible driver line-up to collect points scores. I would also like to thank Audi Sport Customer Racing Asia and our partners who have worked very hard to put this together.”

Shaun Thong: “I am very happy to join B-Quik Racing and Thailand Super Series for my first time. It was a while ago since I drove the R8 LMS Ultra but I am confident that the car is still very competitive. I am looking forward for some good results this weekend alongside Sandy and B-Quik Racing.”

Sandy Kraokaew Stuvik: “I’m very pleased to have Shaun Thong joining me in the Ultra this season. I am confident we will be a tough contender for the title. Shaun has shown his speed with many impressive results during his GT3 career, so I’m sure that our pairing will be one to keep an eye on. Now it’s all eyes forward for the first race in Sepang, I’m eager to get the season started!”
